TITLE: Living life at the landfill
The amount of plastic waste and plastic bags in Vietnam accounts for about 8-12% of domestic solid waste. But only about 11-12% of plastic waste and plastic bags are treated and recycled, the rest is mainly buried, burned and discharged into the environment.
And it is at these landfills that are the source of life for a small part of the community around the landfills.
Every day people and domestic animals go to the landfill to search for what is left to make a living.
Lives attached to landfill is a photo project carried out from 2019 until 2023.
At a landfill on the outskirts of Hanoi City - Vietnam is the daily living of a small community. This small community often fluctuates 6-8 families (Mrs. Mui, Ms. Thom, Mr. Uy, Mr. Hanh, Mr. Qua...) make a daily living here, some families live right at the landfill, they are not only Collecting scrap also raises more pets such as goats, dogs, chickens to increase life income.
Families here divide work shifts according to the days of the month, starting from 6:30 am to 19:30 every day. Working in a polluted environment has affected their health a lot, especially on the respiratory tract. Daily life goes on in anxiety, in the uncertainty of fate
