TITLE: A 21st Century View Of 19th Century Magnificence
The Calicut port had booming trade link with European ports as well as China right from medieval times with its exotic spices business. It is said that the merchants during those days were wealthy enough to buy out an entire shipload of goods and supply more than a shipload at the same time.
What is left today of the South Pier at the Calicut Beach in North Kerala is nothing but a skeleton and really does not give today's generation a true picture of its magnificence during its working life.
